ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif chaired a high-level meeting on Monday to review internal security and implementation of the National Action Plan (NAP).
The meeting also reviewed progress of the ongoing Operation Zarb-e-Azb. Speaking on the occasion, the prime minister expressed the determination to make Pakistan secure for every ethnicity and religion.
He lauded the performance of the law enforcement agencies (LEAs) in maintaining peace and security in the country. He said that militants and extremists elements were receding from the country due to the countless sacrifices rendered by the valiant LEAs, unflinching resolve of the entire nation and efforts of the federal and provincial governments.
Extremist ideology was a global threat and being the frontline state in war on terror, Pakistan confronted the blowback of militants for several years. No other country had suffered to the extent Pakistan has been affected socially and economically while fighting the scourge of terrorism and extremism, he said.
He noted with satisfaction that the world had acknowledged that the overall security situation of Pakistan had significantly improved due to the ongoing NAP and Operation Zarb-e-Azb. He said that the federal government would facilitate the provincial governments by effective coordination and intelligence sharing through the federal agencies.
The gains in the NAP and the operation Zarb-e-Azb, and the progress achieved so far would be consolidated through well-coordinated and concerted efforts at the federal and provincial levels with the backing of the national resolve, the prime minister reiterated.
He said, “We will make Pakistan secure for every ethnicity and religion. The country has embarked upon a right track and we will enable every citizen to reap the benefits of a secure, stable and prosperous Pakistan.”
The meeting was also attended by Minister for Finance Ishaq Dar, Minister for Interior Affairs Nisar Ali Khan, National Security Advisor Lt Gen (R) Nasser Khan Janjua, Inter-Services Intelligence Director General (DG) Lt Gen Rizwan Akhtar, Intelligence Bureau DG Aftab Sultan and other senior government officials.
